Bahrain, an island nation in the Persian Gulf, covers just 778 square kilometres, making it one of the smallest countries in Asia.
Despite its compact size, Bahrain features a 161-kilometer coastline and diverse geography. The archipelago's highest point is Jabal ad-Dukhan, standing at a modest 134 meters above sea level. Approximately 90% of Bahrain’s population resides in urban areas, with the capital, Manama, home to about one-seventh of the country’s inhabitants.
Bahrain operates as a constitutional monarchy, with a king serving as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The King of Bahrain wields considerable authority, including appointing the Prime Minister and other key officials. The current monarch is King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
