MORE ABOUT BAHRAIN

Entry into Bahrain

Visa requirements
GCC nationals: Citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries—Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates—do not require a visa to enter Bahrain.

Other nationalities: Most other travellers will need a visa to visit Bahrain. The type of visa and how to obtain it depends on your nationality and the duration of your stay:

  • eVisa: Eligible nationalities can apply online for short-term or long-term visas. Check eligibility and apply at the official eVisa website (evisa.gov.bh).
  • Visa on Arrival: Some nationalities can obtain a visa upon arrival at Bahraini airports. Confirm eligibility before travelling by contacting the Bahraini embassy or consulate.
  • Embassy Visa: For extended stays or specific nationalities, apply in advance through a Bahraini embassy or consulate.

Health considerations

  • COVID-19: As of December 2024, there are no testing or vaccination requirements for entry, but monitor Bahraini health updates for changes.
  • Passport validity: Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond your departure date.
  • Yellow fever vaccination: Travelers from certain countries may need a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Check TravelHealthPro for up-to-date vaccination requirements.

Travel Advice & Safety

  • Respect local customs: Bahrain is a Muslim-majority country; dress modestly and avoid offensive clothing or behaviour, especially at religious sites.
  • Avoid protests: Stay clear of large gatherings and demonstrations. Follow local news and government advisories.
  • Petty theft: While crime is low, remain cautious in crowded areas like souks. Keep belongings secure.
  • Alcohol: Alcohol is legal for non-Muslims but only available at licensed venues. Public intoxication and drinking in non-designated areas are prohibited and may result in severe penalties.

Currency

The currency is the Bahraini Dinar (BHD), subdivided into 1,000 fils. Banknotes come in denominations of 1/2, 1, 5, 10, and 20 dinars. Coins include 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 500 files. The exchange rate is approximately 1 BHD = 2.65 USD. While cards are widely accepted, it’s recommended to carry cash for smaller vendors. Within the circuit, card payments are accepted.
